Regenerative medicine is the practice of promoting the body to heal itself. Our bodies have the innate response to heal injuries and defend against them. Regenerative medicine strives to assist the body in that process by a number of important processes.
Regenerative Medicine works to restore structure and function of damaged tissues and organs. This can be accomplished by concentrating the body’s natural healing cells such as stem cells and blood platelets that contain powerful growth factors for healing soft tissue injuries, and injecting them at the point of injury. Other forms of this therapy involve using natural substances such as peptides and ozone to help increase blood flow and oxygen to promote healing.
Body & Life™’s regenerative medicine services will begin offering the following services:
Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cells are “undifferentiated” cells that have not yet committed to a specific development path that will form a specific tissue or organ. As such, stem cells placed over injured tissue act in several ways. They can attach and begin dividing in order to repair tissues, and they attract growth factors to further increase the healing process. Stem cell therapy represents an extremely effective method of regenerative healing for soft tissue injuries, and is also being used to improve skin, hair, and sexual function in men and women. Dr. Macek and the medical team at Body & Life™ are trained in stem cell preparation and application and will utilize this therapy as applicable.
From a business perspective, we see tremendous opportunities for stem cell applications and advancements for joint repair in our South Florida demographic. South Florida’s climate is conducive to a very active lifestyle. Golf, tennis, paddle boarding, cycling, running, and many others keep the bulk of the adult population busy and active. They also lead to many joint injuries and surgeries that could be avoided with regenerative medicine.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-rich plasma is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. As a concentrated source of platelets, PRP contains several different growth factors and other cytokines that can stimulate healing of soft tissue. Platelet-rich plasma therapy is used extensively in specialties of dermatology, orthopedics and dentistry. PRP has proved effective in wound healing, tissue repair, joint repair, face rejuvenation etc. For preparation of PRP, various protocols are used and no standard protocol exists but main principles essentially involve concentrating platelets in a concentration of 3–5 times the normal physiological value and then injecting this concentrated plasma in the tissue where healing or effect is desired. PRP and stem cell therapy are often used together in certain joint injuries.
Together with stem cell therapy, PRP therapy will be another regenerative medicine technique Body & Life™ will utilize to improve the lives of our patients through natural healing.
Ozone therapy has been used throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America for over 50 years with tremendous results in healing, but amazingly is still not recognized in Western medicine! Ozone is highly activated oxygen that has more energy and oxidation activity than oxygen and is a lot more powerful. Ozone kills mold, fungus, parasites, bacteria and viruses, and also breaks down harmful chemicals and impurities. It is 35 times more powerful than chlorine and yet leaves no harmful chemicals or by-products behind, and if used properly and in the proper amounts, it is completely non-toxic.
Our goal is to always remain on the cutting edge of new advancements in preventative and medicine and natural healing. Our clinics will continue to add procedures and treatments that our medical team believes will help our patients.
